Emmy award-winning news anchor, Angela Jacobs, dies due to breast cancer
WFTV news anchor, Angela Jacobs, died on Tuesday after losing a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. Her decades-long broadcast journalism career covered everything from weather to sports and even world series.
She joined Channel 9 as a general assignment reporter in 2013. Before that, she worked as a reporter for nine years in Tampa, where her work earned her two Emmy awards. She was a true family person and enjoyed spending time with her family and beloved dog, Minka. Her hobbies and interests included photography, sports, beach trips, etc.
Angela Jacob’s cancer history:
This wasn’t the first time Angela contracted cancer; her last battle was in 2020, about which she spoke publicly in contrast to the recent one. During her last battle, she had 56 treatments over five months and endured five weeks of radiation.
She also had four surgeries and lost all her hair; her will wasn’t smitten despite all this. She finally defeated cancer and was in remission for the past two years but the cancer returned in 2022. She fought her second fight with cancer and underwent many experimental treatments and chemotherapy but unfortunately lost this time.
Angela Jacobs, a reporter, and anchor for WFTV, has passed away; colleagues paid tribute to her
Angela Jacobs, who worked at WFTV for many years as a reporter and anchor, passed away on Tuesday after a valiant fight against metastatic breast cancer.
Who confirmed the death of Angela Jacobs?
In a post that was published on Facebook on July 20, former WFTV anchor Nancy Alvarez claimed of a woman who had battled breast cancer that “She fought a heroic, dignified struggle against breast cancer, sometimes disguising painful moments behind her bold, bright smile.”
Tributes paid to Angela Jacobs by her colleagues:
A coworker and friend of Jacobs named Shannon Butler referred to her as “ferociously loyal to her family and her friends” while describing Jacobs on the air. “I never truly asked Angela what she would want me to say about her passing away, and I regret that now. And I understood the reason for that was because she never brought up the “what if” scenario. She only discussed her medical condition in the hopes that it would be of assistance to other people, and she only discussed life because she wished to just live it.”
Greg Warmoth, an anchor for ABC News, said that Jacobs “had a deep faith in God and heaven, and I feel in my heart that she is in paradise now and clearly not in any agony.” Jacobs was found dead on Sunday.
After nine years as an anchor and sports reporter at WTSP in Tampa Bay, where she was also honored with a regional Emmy Award and won, Jacobs started working as a general assignment reporter for WFTV in February 2013. During the course of her career, she reported on big news stories like hurricanes, important sporting events such as the Super Bowl and the World Series, and more.

“Angela’s sphere of influence was tight but powerful. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and partner. She was also the doting and adoring mother to her dog, Minka, whom she spoiled and spoiled rotten. Forever young, forever gorgeous,” Alvarez stated.
