John Aielli, the long-time host of the local radio station in Austin, Texas, died at 76. The announcement was made by Austin stations KUT and KUTX. Through the announcement, we get to know that he died on Sunday, early morning.
What was the reason behind John Aielli’s demise?
The news partners of the Austin American-Statesman revealed that John had been suffering from various health-related issues for a while now. He suffered a heart attack in 2012 and a severe stroke in 2020. After surviving a stroke in 2020, John retired from his regular on-air duties citing health problems.
KUTX shared the tragic news via Twitter; the tweet stated that John’s death saddened their entire community. John was from Austin and had an incredible effect on everybody’s life in Austin. He had an interesting perspective of life, and his passing away has made their lives less interesting. They love him and will always remember him with a smile on their face.
Career and early life of John Aielli:
John moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas in 1966. After that worked for nearly five decades with KUT and KUTX. In the beginning, he was a part-time announcer for the classic music program; later on, he got his show named ‘Eklektikos’ in 1970, which first aired on KUT and then moved to KUTX in 2013 when the radio station parted its channel into two frequencies for music and news respectively.
John was a well-known and loved figure on Austin’s local radio station. Daily, thousands of people used to listen to him. His death felt like a personal loss for many of his listeners. He radiated positivity with his voice and was very easy to talk to.
