Rory Mcllroy defends his title with a successive Canadian open win

Rory Mcllroy won the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday, closing with an 8-under 62 to win a wild race to the finish with Justin Thomas and Tony Finau. In an interview, Rory triumphed over his victory by stating, “I feel like it’s getting tougher and tougher to win on the PGA Tour,” McIlroy added.

“Look at the two guys that I played with today. I went out with a lead and had to shoot 8-under par to finish the job. So, this tour’s depth of talent is really impressive. And going up against guys like J.T. and Tony and coming out on top, that’s something to feel good about.”

The Catch of the Match:

Rory Mcllroy kept his cool in the final round of the RBC Canadian Open, despite being under pressure from the chasing group. McIlroy began the day tied for the front with American Tony Finau, but 10 birdies in the final round helped him to an eight-under-par round and a total of -19, two better than Finau.

Not only did McIlroy defeat Finau to win the tournament, but the 33-year-old also eclipsed Greg Norman’s 20 PGA Tour victories record. Norman is presently the CEO of the Saudi-backed LIV Series, and McIlroy couldn’t help but poke fun at him after his triumph.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler shot a 66 for his best week round to sit 12 strokes back in equal 18th.

The two top draws were tied for the lead on 17-under with two holes to play after McIlroy dropped a stroke at the 16th hole and Thomas made par. McIlroy completed his birdie putt for a two-shot swing, while Thomas would need three more strokes to get inside the hole.

Thomas would also bogey the 18th, but Finau, the other player in the final group, sunk a 42-foot birdie putt to finish second. In a round that included nine additional birdies and two bogeys, McIlroy birdied the 18th hole. McIlroy’s victory was his 21st on the PGA Tour., moving him into equal 31st on the all-time tour wins list.
