Shanteari Weems, age 50, is suspected of shooting her husband, James Weems, a former Baltimore police officer, on July 22. She has accused James Weems of sexually assaulting children at the daycare centre that she managed in Owings Mills. Shanteari Weems ran the daycare business.

Officers responded to reports of a gunshot around 7:30 p.m. in a room at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, DC. Upon entering the room, they located two handguns and an injured James Weems. NBC reported that the incident. The authorities also claimed that Shanteari had written letters of remorse to the people who they believe were victimised by her spouse. Weems was located by detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department inside the hotel room suffering from gunshot wounds.
According to NBC, he was taken to the hospital with injuries that might potentially be fatal. Officers who responded to the location made an arrest of Shanteari Weems nearby and charged him with assault with the intent to murder while armed with a firearm. On Monday, James was taken into custody for child abuse-related accusations while he was at the hospital.

James Weems reportedly worked as a bus driver at the Lil Kidz Daycare centre in Owings Mills, Baltimore, for a period of two years, as reported by CBS. The company was owned by Shanteari, who was he husband’s wife. The couple had been married for a total of five years at that point. Before then, Weems had been employed by the Baltimore City Police Department continuously since June 1996. He took his retirement in 2005 but remained employed by the department until 2008 in the capacity of contract specialist.
According to an article published in Newsweek, children at the daycare centre allegedly told Shanteari that they had been molested by James Weems and that they had complained about it to Shanteari. According to the documents filed with the court, Shanteari made a report to the authorities on the allegations.
Shanteari claimed that she continued to receive phone calls from anxious parents even after the Baltimore police stated in a press release that they had begun investigating Weems over the course of the previous month that they had begun their investigation. On Thursday of last week, she travelled to Washington, D.C. to see her husband, and while she was there, she allegedly shot him. The officials in Baltimore indicated in their official statement that the Weems case was a complicated one because there are multiple allegations that need to be investigated. As of right present, the daycare centre is still not open for business.
