The House Oversight Committee probing the January 6 assault on the Capitol has filed a notice to former White House Counsel Pat Cipollone, a key person in the last weeks of the Trump administration to whom the panel had repeatedly pleaded to testify. The panel has spoken with Cipollone informally, but Vice-Chair Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., has urged him to testify explicitly among people from the podium.
“Our committee is certain that Donald Trump does not want Mr. Cipollone to testify here. Indeed, our evidence shows that Mr. Cipollone and his office tried to do what was right. They tried to stop several of President Trump’s plans for January 6.” But we think the American people deserve to hear from Mr. Cipollone personally.”

The Subpoena letter to Cipollone-
Chair Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., says in a message to Cipollone about the order that Cipollone has “refused to assist with us further.” He stated that the council would still like to communicate to him about a variety of matters, along with Trump’s attempts to undermine the presidential race elections, an arrangement to publish forged electoral ballots, the intended straight swap of Justice Department governance, and attempts to straightforwardly intrude with Congress’ operations on January 6, 2021.
Cipollone was prominently covered in Tuesday’s dramatic session involving former White House adviser Cassidy Hutchinson, who was claimed to be a role in preventing Trump from conducting a planned trip to the Capitol on January 6 and appealing to him to put off the riot after it got begun.
Cipollone’s connection with the January 6 capitol riot-
During Donald Trump’s initial impeachment hearing, Cipollone was a leading defense. He previously held public office during William Barr’s maiden tenure as Attorney General in the early 1990s.
As NPR noted at the time of the first impeachment proceedings, he held the role of the Catholic Information Center, which is linked with the conservative Opus Dei movement, alongside Barr.
As White House staff for Trump, he also was instrumental in judicial appointments, notably the Supreme Court approval of Justice Amy Coney Barrett soon well before the 2020 presidential election.
