Pearl Fernandez is accused of killing her son Gabriel Fernandez
Gabriel Fernandez, then 8 years old, was subjected to abuse and torture by his mother Pearl Fernandez, and her boyfriend, Isauro Aguirre. The couple tortured a child, and their trials were well-known. After the world learned about her experience, she was dubbed a cruel mother.
Fernandez and Aguirre are serving life sentences.
The Los Angeles Superior Attorney’s office requested the death sentence against the couple when they were first accused. A jury convicted them on counts of murder and a unique instance of torture. However, just Aguirre was given the death penalty in the end.

“I believe that local residents read news articles about laws changing and criminals receiving lighter penalties. Therefore, it makes sense that they think their relatives should be allowed to leave prison.”
