Mithali Raj has announced her retirement from across all levels of International Cricket, and now it’s an end to a remarkable 23-year cricket career. She is truly a legendary woman who made Indian women proud. Indeed, she was arguably the most influential person in developing women’s cricket in our country. She shifted attitudes and shattered boundaries for women’s cricket.
The Mithali Raj Era of International Cricket Is Over-
On 8th June, Mithali Raj announced her retirement from international cricket at all levels. Mithali debuted as just a 16-year-old in 1999 and continued playing 12 Tests, 232 one-days, and 89 Twenty-twenty. The strength of her character, her leadership ability, and the tenacity of her management paved the way for a new tale of Indian women’s cricket, elevating them from outcasts to genuine title contenders.
She declared her retirement from international cricket at Lucknow, only hours before the Cricket board named the Indian selection for a white ball series in Sri Lanka, captained by Harmanpreet. The Cricket board also recognized her outstanding contribution to Indian women’s cricket.
Congratulations on a stellar career Mithali Raj!

An excellent 23 year in Cricket Career-
Mithali Raj has a legacy nearly as long as Sachin Tendulkar’s, a line of literature that ranks her among some of the best in women’s cricket, a one-day international strike rate, and leadership figures that equals MS Dhoni. She was the arguably most influential individual in our nation’s women’s cricket and has knocked down the boundaries and shifted attitudes.
The power of her character, the talent of her leadership, and the tenacity of her management shaped the beginning of a new story of Indian women’s cricket, elevating women beyond outcasts to real title challengers and instilling them with confidence. She takes the field as the world’s leading 50-over run-scorer, with 7,805 runs scored at an aggregate of 50.68 over 211 matches. Mithali’s final days in cricket have been fraught with controversies. However, none of that would prevent Mithali from ever being regarded as a real champion of women’s cricket and cricket in general.
