Donny Ubiera: After a knife fight with authorities, a man arrested in subway slashings was released

A Queens man has been arrested over Saturday for reportedly conducting random subway stabbings in as many weeks after he was arrested and also then released for brandishing a blade at police.

What happened

Donny Ubiera, known to be age 32, slashed two straphangers — one in the head and the other in the neck — without any required justification on the Flushing-to-Midtown No. 7 metro line on Friday and even Saturday mornings, according to the NYPD. The suspected habitual slasher had been freed from prison on Thursday after he reportedly continued to put down a large knife on the sidewalk when confronted by Queens police and also then tried to leave with it the week before.

“This has never been anything but expected,” a furious NYPD knew Commissioner Kee chant Sewell fumed in a press release issued Sunday, railing against the city’s criminal-justice system for allowing suspects like Ubiera could walk away free so readily. “Your cops seem to be doing excellent work.

“We keep catching that guy,” she said of the accused, who’s been arrested at least fourteen times in the past, including for violence. “His record shows that rather than incarceration or mental therapy, the judicial system sends him back to the city and the subways when he performs random violence against innocent people.” He’ll indeed find some target.”

In detail about the case

According to law enforcement sources, Ubiera has always been the topic of four police calls for a psychologically disturbed person. Somebody was being arrested on the street in the same flashy gold and black button-up shirt he was reportedly wearing during the journey of train assaults.

He was being charged with the subway slashings Saturday evening. According to authorities, surveillance footage shows him in his new shirt, making threats with a knife in a metro station.

As per investigators, the first public transportation attack occurred at Queensboro Plaza in Long Island, Queens, around 8:40 a.m. local Time on Friday, at rush hour, leaving the sixty-two-year-old victim with cuts to his hand and face.
