Russian Scientist, Dmitry Kokler, held on espionage charges, dies

Top scientist of Russia, Dmitry Kokler, who was arrested on the charges of espionage and state treason just a couple of days back, died because of terminal cancer, according to a statement released by his family and lawyer on Sunday.

Dmitry was getting treatment in Siberia, receiving nutrition via a tube. Upon getting arrested, he was taken on a 4 hours long flight to Moscow and then to Lefortovo Prison, where he later died.

Dmitry was accused of spying for China-

Dmitry was a doctor of Physics and Mathematics at Novosibirsk State University. He was accused of espionage in China, where he has given many scientific speeches in the past.

According to the court, he was charged with ‘state treason and ‘espionage’ for a ‘foreign state’ crime which had a punishment of 20 years.

Dmitry’s son said that FSP agents traveled with him on all his trips to China and even made sure that he communicated to Chinese learners via a Russian interpreter.

According to one of his relatives who live in the UK Dmitry was a scientist and loved his country; he wanted to work for Russia and teach students despite job offers from top universities worldwide.

Russia Authorities are being accused of Dmitry’s murder-

Everyone in his family protested against his detention by FSB despite being in a very critical condition.

His son, Maxim Kokler, said that FSB killed his father by taking him out of the hospital despite knowing his critical health condition and his family didn’t even get to say goodbye to him.

His daughter said that facing stage four pancreatic cancer in the detention center walls without proper medical care is the worst thing that can happen to a person.
