Rodney Jackson: Raw Oysters eaten caused a Texas man to die
A Texas man died from a bacterial infection after consuming raw oysters in Florida. The oysters were infected with Vibrio bacteria. However, this does not affect the oyster’s appearance, smell, or taste.
After purchasing oysters from Maria’s Fresh Seafood Market in Pensacola on August 3, Rodney Jackson suffered mild symptoms but did not go to the hospital until August 7. His death occurred two days later, according to the Pensacola News Journal. His death was determined to be caused by the Vibrio bacteria in his blood.
According to reports, Rodney Jackson, a business director, died on Tuesday, August 9, from an infection caused by raw oysters. In Florida, raw Louisiana oysters have caused the deaths of two people. After an examination, it was determined he had vibriosis caused by ingesting raw shellfish or seawater.
What is Vibrio?
Vibrio Bacteria can live on shellfish for a very long time after they are taken out of the water, especially in warm water. This bacteria is believed to thrive in warm water, including brackish and saline water.
According to the CDC, Vibrio bacteria is responsible for 80,000 illnesses and 100 deaths in the U.S. each year. The Vibrio virus causes approximately 45,000 U.S. illnesses each year.
Vibriosis is an infection caused by Vibrio bacteria. Vibriosis is often contracted by consuming raw or undercooked shellfish from contaminated waters.
A Vibrio-infected oyster is not different from any other oyster in appearance, smell, or taste. Vibrio can be killed by properly cooking oysters and other shellfish.
Symptoms of Vibriosis infection:
Watery diarrhea, often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, fever, and chills can be caused by ingesting Vibrio bacteria. In most cases, these signs appear within 24 hours.

People with weakened immune systems and chronic liver diseases are more likely to develop vibriosis. During the summer months, this virus is more effective. In mild cases of vibriosis, patients usually recover within three days without any lasting effects.
