The legal community of New York is mourning the death of New York’s Eastern District’s former US attorney Andrew J. Maloney. Some of the major highlights of his career are that he prosecuted mob leader John Gotti, Democratic Political boss of Brooklyn Meade Esposito, Colombian drug mafia Pablo Escobar and many other white-collar criminals during the late 80s and early 90s.

Career and early life details of Andrew J. Maloney:

Andrew J. Maloney was appointed as the 33rd attorney of the Eastern District of New York. His peers and friends used to describe him as a justice enthusiast. He also used to box at Army range and West Point. 

He was also considered a great mentor; a vast generation of attorneys became very successful prosecutors in the legal community under his mentorship.

He is majorly celebrated for his contribution to setting the standards of prosecution offices so high in the Eastern District of New York.

Andrew J. Maloney was born in Greenpoint in 1931 and went to Bishop Loughlin High School. He served as an army ranger during the daytime and went to Fordham Law school at night.

Major career highlights of Andrew J. Maloney:

At the beginning of his legal career, he used to work as a partner in the firm of Maloney and Kelly. He was later appointed as US attorney in 1986 on the recommendation of US Sen Alphonse D’Amato.

His most famous prosecution was that of mobster John Gotti in 1992. Despite many rallies conducted in support of John by his supporters and attorney, Andrew did not hesitate to take the right action. 

Earlier, Gotti was known as ‘Teflon Don’ because he was never successfully prosecuted and was always able to evade the charges. After the trial of John was over, Andrew left his job and joined a private legal firm.
