Legendary promoter and owner of Charlotte Motor Speedway, Bruton Smith, dies at 95

Once again, this is very heartbreaking news of Bruton Smith, who died on Wednesday at 95 years old. He is one of the visionary and combative executives who served himself in establishing the shape of NASCAR into the sport and died on 22 June 2022. 

Bruton Smith died due to natural causes, announced by Speedway Motorsports on behalf of his death statement. Speedway Motorsports also added that Smith was the billionaire CEO and founder of Charlotte Speedway Motorsports, Inc., a group of race tracks that consist of Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Bruton Smith was born on 2 March 1927. He survived in the Stanly County town, which is located in Oakboro, roughly the nearest distance of 30 miles southeast of Charlotte Motor Speedway. The family members of Bruton Smith were interested in raising and owning the several cattles of cotton, corn, and wheat. 

According to a statement from Speedway Motorsports, Bruton Smith, the youngest child among nine children, told in 2008 that his parents trained them for what their work was all about. Numerous people don’t have that gift because they never cared nor grew up working. But if someone belongs to a family farm, that’s what they do every time. Everything was earned by hard work only.” 

According to the sources of information, by keeping his family farm as a side hustle, Bruton Smith started his initial job at 12 years old, where he worked at a local sawmill.

The Speedway Motorsports of Bruton Smith owns the 11 NASCAR tracks of Charlotte, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Bristol, New Hampshire, Texas, Kentucky, and Sonoma, which are located in California and Dover, Delaware, Nashville, and North Wilkesboro. 

In 1982, Bruton Smith was also a founder of Speedway Charities for Children in the remembrance of his late son, whose name was Bruton Cameron Smith. And they have contributed over $58 million to charities by non-profit over the years.
