The recent post shared by the Marilyn Monroe Collection had made the tweeps furious about the infamous act created by Kim Kardashian at this year’s Met Gala. In the post, they shared the before and after images of the dress, which depicted the alteration caused.
The 2022 Met Gala was exclusively in the headlines as it made the public frantic about Kim’s decision to carry Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress for her fashion fiesta, which now appears to be damaged.
The faded Met Gala dress drama-
“Just in case you missed it… Missing crystals, and some left hanging by a thread,” this is the statement which the collection captioned while addressing the casualties made to dress.
The 41-year-old Reality show star, while speaking to Vogue, said that she wanted to represent the ‘most American’ thing from the history of fashion which sparked her the thought of wearing the vintage piece. She added, “I’m extremely respectful to the dress and what it means to American history.
I would never want to sit in it or eat in it or risk any damage, and I won’t be wearing the kind of body makeup I usually do.”
Reports from Time magazine claimed that the dress was handled with utmost care via guards. It’s believed that Kim lost 16 pounds of her body weight to fit into that dress. Moreover, it was not a straight road for her to grasp the dress.
She had to reach out to Riley’s Museum in Orlando, which preserved the dress by winning the bid of an astonishing $4.8 million bid, making it the most expensive dress to be auctioned in history.
The story behind this iconic dress-
In 1962, Marilyn Monroe performed “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” for Kennedy’s 45th birthday. That was the moment when she unveiled her marquisette gown crystal-covered nude silk gown with about 2,500 rhinestones.
Initially, Marilyn Monroe paid $1,440 for the dress. Then it was sold at a 1999 auction for $1.26 million. Currently, the dress is on display at Ripley’s Museum.
